Granite – An Amazing Choice For Flooring

Granite is an igneous rock composed mainly of quartz, feldspar, micas, amphiboles, and some trace materials. It was originally formed several kilometers below the earth's surface where the heat is sufficient to melt rock.

Stone floor restoration services can come in different man-made finishes. It is often highly polished, but can also be honed which is a matte finish, or it can be tumbled which gives it a rustic appearance and textured feel.

At some point it was uplifted, causing the sediment above it to be eroded so that today it is close enough to the surface to be extracted.

Granite today is a popular choice for kitchen countertops, fireplaces, building stones, tiles, and of course granite flooring. Because it is a natural stone, every single piece of granite is unique in terms of its' appearance.

It is normally found in colors of pink, red, grey, white, and black. When it is properly treated and maintained, granite is stain and scratch-resistant and is virtually non-porous.

Granite is ideally suited for flooring, especially in a high traffic area such as the kitchen which has a lot of foot traffic combined with humidity.

Granite tiles can also come in different grades which can refer to the thickness, size, and shape of a tile in addition to its' surface.

With that said, there can be a large difference between a commercial grade and a premium grade: a commercial-grade may not provide the durability that you expect.
